When it is full and 75% of the stored honey is capped and no honey is removed when given a sharp shake.
you can buy a honey fractometer if you are unsure about the uncapped honey, you can pick these up from the internet shops for under £20

Just extracted some spring honey which has a darker appearance than the usual summer honey, the taste is similar to toffee or nuts, or both and is one of the nicest honeys I have tasted.

What a beginning, three supers on some colonies already and some on double brood. Despite this last cold snap bees have been busy as ever collecting nectar and pollen. No sign of swarm activity yet but it won't be long considering the size of colonies
